Scripture: Romans 5:1–2 (NLT)“Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.”

Have you ever read a Bible verse that is so powerful, so loaded with meaning, that you almost have to stop and ask yourself:

“Do I actually believe this?”

Because if we’re honest, it’s possible to read Scripture every day and still miss the weight of what we’re reading. We can scroll through verses, underline them, even quote them—yet our hearts don’t always pause long enough to truly absorb what God is saying.

Maybe it’s because we’ve heard the Gospel so many times that it no longer shocks us.Maybe it’s because we’re constantly searching for something “new,” something deeper, something more dramatic.Or maybe we’ve simply become too familiar with holy things.

Whatever the reason, Romans 5:1–2 is not a passage that should ever feel normal.

This is the kind of Scripture that should stop us in our tracks.

Made Right in God’s Sight

Paul begins with these words:

“Since we have been made right in God’s sight…”

That is an outrageous statement.

Because when you truly understand who God is—His holiness, His purity, His righteousness—you realize how impossible it is for sinful humanity to be “right” before Him.

God is not just loving. He is holy.God is not just kind. He is the Judge.God is not just merciful. He is perfectly just.

And the uncomfortable truth is this:

We were not naturally right in God’s sight.

We were guilty. We were rebellious. We were spiritually dead. We deserved separation. We deserved judgment.

But then Scripture says something that should shake your soul:

We have been made right… by faith.

Not by effort. Not by religious performance. Not by trying harder. Not by being “better than before.”

But by faith in Jesus Christ.

Peace With God

Paul continues:

“We have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.”

Peace with God.

That is not a small sentence.

This is peace with the Creator of the universe. Peace with the One who spoke galaxies into existence. Peace with the One who will judge the nations. Peace with the One whose holiness causes angels to tremble.

It means we are no longer enemies of God.

We are not under wrath. We are not condemned. We are not rejected. We are not trying to earn acceptance. We are at peace.

And if that doesn’t stir worship in you, it may be because your heart has forgotten what Christ saved you from.

The Gospel is not simply that God made us “a little better.”

The Gospel is that God took sinners destined for judgment and gave them peace.

Undeserved Privilege

Then verse 2 takes it even further:

“Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand…”

Think about those words: undeserved privilege.

That means we don’t stand in fear.We don’t stand in shame. We don’t stand in uncertainty.

We stand in grace.

Not because we earned it, but because Jesus carried us into it.Not because we were worthy, but because He was willing.

This is not something we achieved.

It is something we were brought into.

Sharing God’s Glory

And then comes the part that almost feels too good to be true:

“We confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.”

Sharing God’s glory.

Not just surviving. Not just barely making it into heaven. Not just escaping judgment.

But sharing glory.

The glory of God is overwhelming. It is holy. It is eternal. It is untouchable. And yet the Gospel declares that believers will one day participate in it—not because of what we’ve done, but because of what Christ has done.

That is not human achievement.

That is divine mercy.

Don’t Scroll Past This

So today, take a moment and pause.

Don’t rush through Scripture like it’s common.Don’t read the Gospel like it’s ordinary.

Because Romans 5:1–2 is a reminder that changes everything:

You were guilty, but now you are made right. You were far away, but now you have peace. You were undeserving, but now you stand in privilege.

You were headed for judgment, but now you are promised glory.

So worship Him.

Lift your eyes above the chaos of today and see your life through the lens of eternity. Whatever you’re facing right now—pain, uncertainty, hardship, fear—remember this:

You stand in grace. And your future ends in glory.

May we never become casual with the cross.May we never become bored with the Gospel.May we never read Scripture without trembling at the power of what it declares.

Prayer

Jesus, we are undone. We recognize Your mercy and Your love toward us. We deserved judgment, but You gave us peace. You didn’t only remove sin from our lives—you brought us into a place of undeserved privilege and promised that we will share in Your glory.

We honour You, Jesus, for who You are: Your beauty, Your holiness, Your power, and Your love.

In Jesus’ name,Amen.
